fiberglass and sheet metal bases

fiberglass and sheet metal bases

Bases serve the essential function of providing a support for skylights and opening systems, as well as resolving infiltration issues at the junction between the roof structure and the roofing system.
Depending on the structural type of the roof, the appropriate base is identified, which may be made of sheet metal or fiberglass.

Sheet metal bases are typically used for flat roofs that are waterproofed with bituminous membranes or PVC. Fiberglass bases are more commonly used on corrugated or wavy roofs, where differences in slope and the roof profile itself require proper sealing that precisely follows the corrugations or waves of the roofing.

Attention to manufacturing quality and proper installation of these products is essential to achieve excellent performance. Sheet metal bases are produced by forming the material into a “C” shape, creating a supporting foot and a flat surface to receive skylights and frames. PRFV (fiberglass) bases are manufactured on dedicated molds designed according to the specific roofing types. Their production requires a careful process combining design, mold creation, and molding.

Poliform Lucernari has a wide range of molds suitable for most roofing systems available on the market. Custom molds can also be developed according to specific customer requirements.

CURVED

Molded element made of resin reinforced with glass fibers, externally treated with gelcoat protection layer (8/10 thickness) in grey, and internally finished with white gelcoat to enhance light transmission.
This construction also provides a pleasant aesthetic result both externally (color, dimensions, and ribs matching the roofing) and internally (white surface for improved light diffusion).

In addition to being extremely easy to install, this element effectively resolves all installation issues related to opening mechanisms and skylights on insulated roofs, while maintaining the same structural characteristics and load-bearing capacity. Moreover, by perfectly adapting to the insulated panel without the need for sheet-metal works, it completely prevents the risk of water infiltration through the roof.

Insulation at the upstand and/or additional insulation over the entire flange for curved roofs is provided, forming an insulating package with thickness equal to that of the roof panel. This creates a perfect monolithic replacement of the removed roofing sheets required for installation, using expanded polyurethane / polystyrene / rock wool with variable densities, and fire reaction class in accordance with EN 13501-1.
